Psychology Capstone Program Director & Lecturer

The is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 23 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. Among the first departments established at Stanford University, the Department of Psychology has a long-standing tradition of ground-breaking theoretical research that also has powerful impact in the real world. The department is ranked as one of the top psychology programs in the nation and has been a leading psychology department among American universities for decades. This extraordinary achievement was honored by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. in 2003.

Overview

The Department of Psychology seeks a highly qualified lecturer to develop and direct the departmentโ€™s undergraduate capstone program. have been identified by Stanford as a high-impact educational practice providing opportunities for students to integrate and apply what they have learned during their major courses of study, strengthen relationships with instructors and mentors, and experience a range of personal and practical benefits. Starting with the graduating class of 2025, all Stanford undergraduates are required to complete a capstone project as part of their major. In conjunction with Department leadership, the Director will be responsible for creating and leading this new capstone experience, expanding it from what currently exists as an honors program (only for students completing honors thesis projects) to a program that will reach and positively impact all psychology majors. The Director will have the following responsibilities and qualifications:

Responsibilities

Instruction (50%)

โ— Prepare, deliver, and evaluate capstone course(s) for the undergraduate Psychology program.

โ— Develop appropriate syllabi

โ— Prepare and revise course descriptions and other pedagogical materials

โ— Develop appropriate methods of evaluating students

โ— Evaluate and adjust the course as necessary based on relevant feedback.

โ— Direct the activities of any teaching assistants or fellows, graders, or other academic support student workers.

Program Administration (25%)

โ— In coordination with Department leadership (Chair, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Honors Thesis Director and Psych One Director), lead and oversee development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of the capstone program. Oversee analysis, reporting, and program improvements. Oversee the development, adherence to, and implementation of program policies and procedures.

โ— Lead strategic planning for the program.

โ— Represent the entity or program to the broader university, external community, and other stakeholders. Provide expert consultation related to program development, funding opportunities, or other specialty area.

โ— Develop outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships and fundraising/funding. Identify external funding opportunities and write proposals and research grants.

โ— Develop and oversee strategic financial planning and sustainability for the program/entity, as needed; monitor performance and ensure appropriate controls.

Mentoring (15%)

โ— Meet with each capstone student at least twice per year.

โ— Monitor studentsโ€™ progress, and identify students who may need additional assistance.

Program Evaluation (10%)

โ— Review the program on an annual basis to determine if it meets the University goals for the capstone program, as well as the Department goals for their undergraduate majors.

โ— Review course evaluations and other relevant feedback for possible improvements.

โ— Review the courses to ensure that the program meets and learning objectives and outcomes for students from the University or the Department.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a terminal degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Psychology or related area, and significant experience teaching in higher education.

The expected pay for this position is $88,055.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
