About the Role
As an Unreal Artist, you will be responsible for set dressing the environments in Engine and bringing your beautiful environments to their final shot stage following the very illustrative art style of the project. Using all the tools at your disposal in Unreal you will be closely working with your supervisors and fellow teammates, to bring each element of the shot (environment, lookdev, and lighting) to the finish line.
You will assist with finding solutions to streamline parts of the pipeline, making presets that could help streamline the workflow. You will need to be open to new ways of lighting shots within the art style and work within those constraints (custom-built shaders, non-PBR, etc.).
Responsibilities
- Understand and apply the Illustrative art styles of the projects and be able to translate those into 3D.
- Experience working with other departments in a shot-based pipeline; communication is key!
- Work closely with Lighting and Environment Supervisors to keep workflows and quality consistent across all environments and shots.
- Create moods through the lighting of levels and tuning shaders that are consistent with the art direction of the project.
- Edit meshes externally.
- Tune surface shaders, light properties, and post-process to get to the final desired look.
Requirements
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience and technical knowledge with Unreal Engine.
- Solid understanding of color, value, composition, and visual space, including strong knowledge of how these are balanced between the art direction, project needs, and technical restraints.
- Technical experience with managing performance budgets.
- Having used Unreal in production is a plus.
- Experience with a version control package.
Physical Requirements
- Handling/grasping documents or office equipment.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Clear speaking and adequate hearing, sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in person and/or on the telephone.
- Vision sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data.
- Repetitive motions for computer equipment use.
- Work is to be performed primarily in an office/home-office environment using standard office equipment.
- While not guaranteed, some day-to-day activities may involve bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above and/or below the shoulder, and/or lifting/carrying/moving work-related equipment.
