Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The LAN/WAN Technician performs the day-to-day maintenance of local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) infrastructure used to interconnect computer and medical information systems throughout Bryan Health facilities. Performs installation, upgrades, testing and maintenance activities and documentation of the network environment under the direction and support of Network Transport Engineers.

- *Performs implementation and maintenance functions of the standards-based network infrastructure under the direction and support of Network Transport Engineers.
- *Installs and manages network hardware and network software systems.
- *Documents network implementation using network management and monitoring systems.
- *Monitors and responds to network equipment failures; seeks assistance from Network Transport Engineers as appropriate, to correct interconnections problems.
- Provides technical support to departmental staff to ensure network functionality, standards and security measures are met.
- Works with external consultants and vendors as directed by Technical Services Manager.
- Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree in Computer Science or equivalent field of study required. Minimum of three (3) years experience supporting IT systems required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work involves walking, standing and sitting for periods of time, including working above one’s head while standing on a ladder, working in enclosed spaces and exposure to dust, noise and insulation.
