Department SummaryThe department of Criminal Justice and Sociology is an interdisciplinary department that consists of multiple undergraduate and graduate programs. Position SummaryThe University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for a for a full-time Lecturer position in the Emergency Services Administration (ESA) program, beginning Fall 2024. For best consideration, applications should be submitted by March 15, 2024.Emergency Services Administration is an online undergraduate program that focuses on fire service, emergency medical services, and administration.The successful candidate (Program Director) will be expected to lead the day-to-day operations and activities of the new UNT Dallas National ESA program and teach the equivalent of 2 courses per semester. The Director will recruit and further develop the ESA program as a national program which is slated to be a standalone major in the Fall of 2024. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for the hiring and evaluation of adjuncts for the ESA program along with student advisement for both current and matriculating students. The Program Director will be expected to network with Federal, State, and local partners to build a strong rapport and reputation for academic excellence in the program in Texas and beyond. In addition, the Program Director will interface with first responder and community partners including but not limited to community colleges, high schools, and first- responder agencies throughout Texas and the nation. Duties will also include providing programmatic information about the ESA program to state and federal agencies as required.Duties:
- Direct the daily operations of the ESA program and under the direction of the Dean of LAS in coordination with the department of Criminal Justice and Sociology.
- Recruit and advise prospective students for the program.
- Meet with Program Coordinators/Directors of the various community and Technical Colleges with Fire and EMS programs to facilitate strong relationships and articulation agreements between UNT Dallas and partner institutions.
- Prepare monthly and annual reports as required.
- Maintain compliance with UNT Dallas policies and procedures.
- Manage and expand the program and partnerships.
- Hires, supervises, and evaluates program adjuncts.
- Perform curriculum development and oversight/assessment.
- Hold program informational meetings as needed and scheduled around the region.
- Work with UNT Dallas Marketing and Communications on ESA program marketing strategies.
- Work with Community Colleges and or High Schools with First Responder programs to facilitate enrollment.
- Attend Fire and EMS professional conferences to promote and recruit potential students.
- Teach 2 courses per semester.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Fire Science, Paramedicine, Emergency Management or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Strong evidence of significant work experience 5 to 7 years in fire service, emergency medical services or emergency management.
- Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and curriculum development.
- Evidence or demonstrated potential for program recruitment and management.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully develop academic or professional programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral or terminal degree in Fire Science, Paramedicine, Emergency Management or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education or evidence of completion of a doctoral or terminal degree within 5 years of hire
- Experience working in at least two of the areas in the field of Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, or Emergency Management. Academic experience working on a university or community college campus. Experience in teaching courses in Fire Science, Paramedicine, or Emergency Management or closely related field.
- Experience in curriculum development and developing interdisciplinary programs.
- Experience in academic program development and student recruitment
- Should be currently licensed by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection or the Texas Department of Health as a Registered Paramedic/ NREMT or both. Out-of-state licenses or equivalent will be considered.
