Job Description

Responsible for engineering and documenting telecommunication transmission systems to deliver voice, video, data, and wireless services across regional and national converged networks. In charge of designing, planning, and implementing projects focused at delivering services ranging from DS-0 through DWDM and including Native Ethernet and IP Services delivered over fiber optical and coaxial cable lines. Accountable for maintaining a customer service order queue and completing tasks within SLAs. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.) Essential Position Functions: Develops and maintains detailed network designs and documentation including Method and Procedure and Engineering Specifications. Prepares cost estimates to deliver DWDM, SONET, TDM, Ethernet, and IP services across network. Provides engineering and deployment plans for new circuit deployments. Provides equipment and circuit engineering to industry standards. Prepares the technical specifications, development, and integration of peripheral systems involving multiple telecommunications technologies supporting voice, video, data and other information. Assists in evaluating and selecting new network equipment and emerging technologies while ensuring the selected technology supports business plans and positions the network for future growth in capacity, features, capability, and reliability. Recommends hardware and software upgrades in order to support customer service orders. Analyzes network vulnerabilities and develops plan of action to minimize risks. Performs analysis and reporting of operational measurement data from traffic sensitive network elements to identify potential, future network-capacity needs. Develops and maintains detailed network designs and documentation including Method of Procedure and Engineering Specifications. Maintains network asset and circuit inventory databases. Produces weekly reports. Other duties as required. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED required. 3+ years of experience in related field (i.e. Engineering, Technical Operations). Proven ability to meet deadlines/SLAs. Requires working knowledge of transmission, switching, powering, grounding, mechanical, and cabling. Requires working knowledge and experience with Granite and Mint. Demonstrated problem solving and analytical thinking skills. Excellent collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization. Demonstrated knowledge of various manufacturers telecommunications equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of backbone and loop architectures and technologies. BS/BA degree in related discipline or similar technical degree. Certifications: NRSII / CCENT / JNCIA. CompTIA Security a plus. Database management experience in Granite a plus. CCNA certification a plus. MEF Carrier Ethernet Certification Program certified a plus. Must have intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills. Must be able to efficiently use a Windows-based computer. Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner. Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communications skills. Must be able to work alone, and with a team. Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
