The Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine has an opening for an Assistant Coordinator, Ophthalmic Photography at their medical center location. The Alkek Eye Center is located within the Lee and Joe Jamail Specialty Care Center building situated on the McNair campus. It is a large, high volume clinical practice offering all eye services from licensed Optometrists and Ophthalmologists in all ophthalmic sub-specialties. The Assistant Coordinator, Ophthalmic Photography is a technical position that will work closely with the physicians, medical staff, and patients to assist in optimizing clinical flow by completing various diagnostic imaging and patient workups. Individuals must be able to multi-task in a fast paced, high volume medical environment.
Job Duties
Ophthalmic photographers assist with the following tests/assessments within an ophthalmology practice including but not limited to the following:
Photographs fluorescent angiograms.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)/auto fluorescence.
Performs Intraocular Lens (IOL) calculations.
Performs ultrasound biometry and sonography.
Performs slit lamp photography.
Performs simultaneous stereo and individual fundus photography.
Injects dye for fluoresceins.
Conducts color vision testing.
Performs topography.
May travel to other office location.
May be assigned to assist ophthalmic staff in direct patient care.
Responds to patients’ messages in a timely manner.
Works with front desk to ensure that message boards are update with any current delays in clinic.
Ensures that exam rooms are stocked and cleaned in accordance with departmental and BCM guidelines.
Attends CME courses to maintain and enhance ophthalmic technician skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree either AA, BS or BA.
- Photography certification.
- Experience in an ophthalmology or ophthalmic clinical practice.
