We are currently seeking an Associate or Senior Editor with research experience in physics to join – a selective multidisciplinary open access journal, part of the Nature Portfolio, publishing high-quality scientific research across physics and related sciences.We are interested in hearing from individuals with a strong understanding of their subject, an interest beyond it and with a background in one of the physics subdisciplines below:
- Quantum science and technology, including quantum gases.
- Soft matter physics
- Statistical physics and computation
If you love science, are passionate about science communication, and enjoy reading papers outside your chosen area of research, you could be the person we are looking for to join our lovely team at Communications Physics.Key tasks:
- Handling original research papers and working closely with other editors and editorial board members on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
- Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
- Determining the representation of their subject in the journal.
- Liaising extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with experts in the international scientific community.
- Commissioning content for the journal such as reviews, comments, or perspectives
- Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in a discipline covered by the journal.
- A passion for science and a desire to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your speciality.
- The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different disciplines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and fluency in English (written and spoken).
- An eagerness to meet scientists worldwide, online and in person, and to learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.
- A good handle of social media platforms would be desirable.
- Be comfortable with working in a fast-paced collaborative environment – team spirit is essential.
- Demonstrate an interest to writing news-type, non-specialist features for the journal or other communication outlets.
- Editorial experience if applying for the senior editor role.
