Job Description
The Back Parts Counter Sales Person will assist in making the Parts Department a profitable center by focusing on providing excellent customer service using established customer sales standards.Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fill parts orders received by telephone
- Fill parts order for shop and deliver to mechanic
- Inform mechanic on substitution of part when identical replacement is not available
- Research availability of out-of-stock parts and issue purchase order
- Review repair orders before they are closed to see that correct parts are issued
- Use catalog and computer to determine part number and price
- Inspect returned parts to determine if they are re-stockable before issuing credit
- Maintain lubricant inventory
- Assist Front Parts Counter staff when needed
- Keep work area neat and organized
- Complete training requirements for the parts department
- Attend scheduled parts meetings
Education/Training or Experience:
- High School diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills required
- 1 year of experience in the heavy-duty truck industry preferred
Personal Requirements:
- The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
- Able to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
- Able to communicate information and ideas in writing or verbally so others will understand
- Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- The ability to perform basic math as well as calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, and statistics
- Must interact well with managers, co-workers, customers, and the general public
- It is preferred that the Back Parts Counter Person possess’ a valid driver’s license and meets insurability requirements with the Company’s insurance company
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary

- Daily operation of a computer and other office machines (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printers)
- Occasionally will work out doors in all kinds of weather
- Daily employee will lift up to 75 pounds
- Daily noise level is usually moderate
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts
- Daily will sit, stand, walk, stoop, crawl, kneel, reach, handle, finger, feel, talk, hear, and see
- Extensive computer viewing daily
