ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Daily – Coordinate the day-to-day-operations of the Building Engineer (custodial) department. Assign and monitor work. Evaluate performance and quality of work of employees. Maximize various levels of cleaning according to area to ensure overall cleanliness and healthiness of the district’s schools. (30%)
Weekly – Inspect all facilities and evaluate adherence to established cleaning standards and criteria, and provide feedback to Building Engineer (custodial) leads, and/or Building Engineers (custodians) as necessary. (30%)
Weekly – Supervise, evaluate, and provide guidance to all Building Engineers (custodial staff). (15%)
Weekly/Monthly – Coordinate placement of substitute building engineers. Coordinate and manage building engineer supply requisitions, paperwork and inventory control. Coordinate repair of building engineer equipment. Deliver building engineer supplies. Assist in budget, purchasing, and capital accountability for the building engineer department. Enforce department and district rules and regulations. Perform department time and attendance. (20%)
Other Tasks as Necessary / On Call – (5%)
– Oversee and coordinate seasonal chemical removal, cleaning, buffer, auto scrubber, carpet-cleaning operation.
– Coordinate and supervise assigned staff to remove snow according to the snow removal plan.
– Respond to emergency situations after hours as needed.
– Assist with the development, implementation and facilitation of building engineer staff training.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent required. Proficiency with work order management software (such as SchoolDude) preferred. Bilingual preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Over two year of experience as a custodial services supervisor required. Experience performing light maintenance required. Experience testing pools and reporting compliance for the Tri-County Health Department (or a similar public health agency) preferred. Experience performing custodial supplies inventory control and waste reduction preferred. Experience operating a pool preferred; however, willingness and ability to learn and operate the pool equipment within 6 weeks required.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of custodial supplies, basic maintenance procedures, basic accounting practices, basic inventory control practices, custodial procedures, and handling chemicals.
- Basic ability to develop, plan, coordinate, and implement routine and scheduled: floor care, light replacements, restroom cleaning and disinfecting, sanitization of classrooms and restrooms in case of illness outbreaks.
- Customer service and public relations skills.
- Critical think and problem solving skills.
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies and department procedures.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and education backgrounds.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, to follow safety rules, to practice safe work habits, to utilize appropriate safety equipment and to report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
- Ability and willingness to adhere to the attendance requirements and to follow district procedures for absence reporting. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position and necessary of the efficient operation of the business. Employees are expected to be on time and punctual for work, confirming to established work hours. It is recognized that there are times when a person must be absent due to illness or other reasons. However, the ability to schedule work for all staff is critical to the minimization of overtime costs and compliance with the Classified Agreement.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
- Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, email and smart phones.
- Operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Operating knowledge of and experience with cleaning supplies and equipment including buffers, carpet cleaning/extraction machines, vacuums, scissor lifts, basic hand and power tools, snow blower and floor scrubbing machines.
- Working knowledge of fire inspections and safety, alarm systems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid Colorado driver’s license required at time of hire. Certified Pool Operator certificate preferred.
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: In conjunction with the Operations Manager and Building Level administrators, assists in directing/coordinating district building engineers I-IV and substitutes. Spends 61% -85% of time coordinating services. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and overseeing/directing work; addressing minor complaints and resolving problems; training employees; and assisting with hiring.
JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by daily activities and occasionally in collaboration with Operations Manager. This position requires application of position knowledge to efficiently identify, analyze and solve problems and follow basic custodial guidelines as well as initiate independent thinking while coordinating events. Work is guided by Adams School District 14 policies and procedures. Decision making requires collaboration with administrators, principals, managers and co-workers. Supervisor is occasionally involved in decision making.
SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Low exposure to self and/or others to chemical burns, heat burns, fractured bones, hernia, loss of limb, loss of sight, disfigurement and fatality due to working with a variety of equipment and machines and chemicals. Medium exposure to self and/or others to bruises, cuts, disease, repetitive motion or stress due to slips falls, handling furniture, etc.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold; extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to compare, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate and use interpersonal skills. Frequently required to analyze, compile and negotiate.
