Summary

The Category Manager is under the direction of the Senior Buyer and the Fast Break

Operations Director. This person manages various product categories assigned to them.

They work directly with the Senior Buyer, other Category Managers, vendors and product

suppliers. To be eligible for this position you must be at least 18 years old. Category

Managers work a 40 hour work week (8 hours a day, 5 days a week) and may need to

respond to product/promotional related issues at the store on weekends and evenings,

on top of working their regular schedule. A valid driver license for the driver and

insurance is required on any vehicle transporting company assets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Meet and emulate the core values of the company.

Interact with FastBreak “Service” department to keep the store/station operating properly

Interact with FastBreak “Help” department to keep the store/station operating properly

Maintain a professional image at all times by wearing clean professional clothing, be well

groomed and wear clean uniforms..

Respond to email and phone communications involving store operations and HR requests or

requirements.

Attend professional trainings and meetings outside the normal hours of work

Analyze data to determine industry and consumer trends

Devise long-term development strategies for product categories

Develop exit strategies for unsuccessful products

Determine the positioning of a product category to maximize visibility

Determine competitive, profitable pricing and promotional activities for all categories managed

Works with price book, operations, accounting and IT to insure execution of and to gain input

concerning current and future marketing department initiatives

Collaborates with the food service team lead to maximize efforts of the company food service

initiatives.

Assists the food service team lead with buying opportunities

Make forecasts for product demand to ensure the sustainability of inventory

Develop planograms for all product categories

Manage store product resets in all categories at least once a year

In concert with corporate marketing, helps manage the company loyalty program

Effectively communicates marketing efforts to the field management team, in store team

members and to the company’s supplier partners using a wide variety of methods and tools

Audits invoices in order to confirm the company is being charged agreed to pricing for goods and

services

Seeks input from field management team regarding the quality and timeliness of supplier partner

deliveries

Effectively mediates issues between company personnel and the company’s supplier partners

Works with field operations lead and the c-store Operations Director on a frequent basis to

resolve issues with store level tram and to request feedback of what issues and successes may

be taking place in the stores

Effectively presents marketing department plans at company meetings

Understands, helps develop and holds themselves accountable for company goals and budgets

Work with the marketing team to create and execute a sales driving signage program

Work with the marketing team to create and execute local marketing

Visits stores on a regular basis to monitor follow through of vendors and internal team members

Other duties and responsibilities

Run/create reports out of our category management software and in some cases the web based

software of our suppliers

Track and bill our suppliers for product rebates and promotional allowances on a timely basis

Attend various industry events in order to take advantage of lower cost buy in opportunities and

to develop personal skills

Make sure retail pricing is visible at all sites

Reads trade magazines in order to gain pertinent knowledge about the industry

Completes Pricebook entry on promotions and pre-booked shipments

Creates and maintains schematics available online to stores and other support staff.

Maintains warehouse organization of racks, shelving and promotional materials

Performs other duties not named above as requested

Understands this job requires overnight travel

Does all the above work within the policies and ethical standards of the company
