Overview
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Director of Development reports to the Chief Impact and Community Engagement Officer (CICEO) and will be responsible for leading and implementing the organization’s fundraising strategy, building and managing the development team, and driving advocacy and awareness of the organization’s mission, need, and deliverables to expand mission impact and organizational growth.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Create and Implement a Comprehensive Fundraising and Marketing Strategy.
- Develop, lead and manage all aspects of a donor-centered fundraising program, including major gifts, planned giving, annual fund, special events, and grant writing.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase awareness, engage and mobilize supporters to advocate for Sound’s mission and its impact on the community.
- Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and other public forums to enhance the organization’s visibility and influence.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including potential donors, community leaders, and elected officials, to advance the organization’s mission and goals.
- Build and manage a high-performing development team that is aligned with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.
- Develop and implement performance metrics and evaluation tools to ensure the team’s performance meets or exceeds fundraising targets and other organizational goals.
- Build and manage a budget for the development team that is aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities and goals.
- Identify and implement technology solutions to support fundraising and development operations and to enhance donor engagement and stewardship.
- Develop and implement strategies for identifying, cultivating and maintain relationships with major gift prospects, including individuals, corporations, and foundations, to expand the organization’s donor base.
- Serve as a key member of the leadership team, working collaboratively with the CICEO, CEO and other senior leaders to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan and vision.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS
- Support and participate during corporate networking events (may include some evenings).
- Perform other duties as assigned
KEY WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Establishes and maintains positive, ethical, and professional working relationships with the Sound management and team members, clients, tenants, government officials, inspectors, vendors, and other professionals. Relates to a wide variety of people including members of ethnic and sexual minority populations, and is respectful of individual and cultural differences.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, and a master’s degree or other advanced degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and development, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- A demonstrated passion for the organization’s mission and fundraising, with a deep understanding of and commitment to the values and principles of the nonprofit sector.
- Proven experience leading grant writing programs and securing funding from a variety of sources, including Foundation, State, and Federal Grants, with a track record of achieving fundraising goals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with prior experience in public speaking and external relations, and the ability to represent the organization to a variety of stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and partner organizations.
- Prior experience creating strategic multiyear fundraising plans and building consensus among stakeholders to achieve fundraising goals.
- Demonstrated success in staff management and mentorship, with a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive work culture that fosters professional growth and development.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
- Washington driver’s license and insurable driving record required.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, an individual must be able to sit at a desk for three or more hours a day and use office equipment, including phones and computer keyboards. Individuals must be able to engage people over the phone and in-person by voice. The individual in this Job is regularly required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, and is frequently required to stand, sit; and stoop or kneel, and may need to lift 25+ pounds on occasion. The individual is required to visit various locations and walk on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
