Team Description:
The AI Foundations team is responsible for bringing our vision for AI at Capital One to life. We collaborate with academia, build production systems, and work closely with product, technology, and business leaders to apply the latest AI advancements to our business.
Role:
As a Distinguished Applied Researcher at Capital One, you will play an individual contributor role, driving strategic direction through collaboration with Applied Science, Engineering, and Product leaders. You will guide and mentor a team of applied scientists and their managers without directly managing them. Additionally, you will represent Capital One in the research community, collaborating with prominent faculty members.
Responsibilities:
– Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to develop AI-powered products that improve customer interactions with their finances.
– Utilize a wide range of technologies to extract insights from large volumes of data, including PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, VectorDBs, and more.
– Develop AI foundation models from design to implementation, including training, evaluation, and validation.
– Conduct high-impact applied research to enhance customer experiences using the latest AI developments.
– Communicate complex technical concepts to business stakeholders.
Qualifications:
– Passionate about making the right decisions for customers.
– Up-to-date with emerging technologies and continuously researching and evaluating their applications.
– Thrives in defining and solving complex problems, unafraid to share new ideas.
– Leader who challenges the status quo and prioritizes talent development.
– Comfortable with open-source languages and has hands-on experience developing AI models using open-source tools and cloud platforms.
– Deep understanding of AI methodologies and experience building large deep learning models.
– Strong engineering mindset with a track record of delivering models at scale.
– Recognized achievements in machine learning, such as publications or projects.
– Ability to independently pursue impactful research agenda.
Preferred Qualifications:
– PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
– Specialization in natural language processing (NLP) with industrial research experience.
– Significant contributions to large language models and related research publications.
– Experience with large-scale model development and deployment.
– Expertise in areas such as graph neural networks, sequential models, or multivariate time series.
– Knowledge of optimization techniques for training large language models.
– Background in model finetuning and transfer learning.
– Expertise in data preparation, including tokenization and dataset curation.
