Family Law Program Director
We are seeking an experienced family law attorney to be the Program Director of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF) Safe and Stable Families (SSF) program. The Family Law Program Director of SSF is a senior-level executive reporting to the AVLF Deputy Director and serves on the organization’s leadership team. The SSF Director manages all SSF’s nationally recognized programs and teams, including the Safe Families Office (SFO), Standing with Survivors (a community-based/mobile advocacy program), the Social Work & Advocacy Program (SWAP), and the Family Law Program (FLP).
These SSF programs provide critically important services to Atlanta residents facing intimate partner abuse. The focus is on meeting survivors where they are to ensure access to protection and other services during a time of crisis. Success in this role will be effectively leading a diverse team of professionals to fully engage people seeking help, volunteers, co-workers, partners, policy makers and other stakeholders.

Family Law Attorney – Program Director Responsibilities
- Supervising and managing the work of 12+ employees, with 4 direct reports, including quality control, teaching, providing feedback, receiving feedback, delegating, and providing support.
- Engaging in high-level communication with community partners.
- Building relationships with firms and volunteers and being visible in the community by serving on boards and as a member of organizations or coalitions relevant to the work of the team.
- Facilitating the execution of AVLF’s and SSF’s strategic plans and the growth of SSF programming.
- Serve as member of AVLF executive leadership team, participating in directors’ meetings, providing input, and helping make leadership-level decisions for the organization, and communicate with other organizational leaders regarding SSF needs and roles.
- Represent clients before judicial proceedings when appropriate and necessary.
- Ensure client data and information is maintained and appropriately and accurately stored and tracked in AVLF’s client database.
- Coordinate team’s involvement in grant applications, reporting, and compliance.
- Initiate/oversee HR-level issues with HR Dept. (e.g., performance, promotions, concerns from staff, hiring)
- Manage official partnerships with SSF (e.g., MOUs, joint events, etc.)
- Approve requests for financial assistance and invoice payments.
- Ensure team stays up to date on legal and professional aspects related to work, including attending seminars, training, and general professional development.
Family Law Attorney – Program Director Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited university and an active member of the State Bar of Georgia in good standing; combined five (5) to seven (7) years experience in family law litigation and supervision/management, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Experience working with and advocating for survivors of intimate partner abuse.
- Experience working with clients of diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience supervising attorneys, law students, and other staff.
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people to understand, convey, and support the clients’ and volunteers’ needs.
- Must be respectful and responsive to cultural beliefs and practices within a client’s community.
- Strong collaborative skills.
- Ability to derive creative solutions.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to executing with excellence.
- Must be organized and able to prioritize clients’ needs effectively.
- Demonstrated excellence in legal research and writing.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite. Experience using Salesforce is a plus.
Salary 90k-100k
