Primary Purpose of Department

The Department of Psychological Science is an academic community of teacher/scholars and doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students that is engaged in advancing the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge in traditional areas of Psychology in general and applied areas of Psychology in particular. The Department of Psychological Science seeks to provide quality undergraduate education and to attain national and international recognition for research and graduate training in Health Psychology and Organizational Science. We strive to achieve our mission in order to:

– To prepare students for careers in science and professional practice in Health Psychology and Organizational Science;

– To advance basic and applied psychological research;

– To build connections with and make contributions that benefit our local community.

Description of Work

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

M.A. in Psychology or related field; related teaching experience at the undergraduate level; evidence of the ability to interact and communicate effectively with students of diverse backgrounds. A Ph.D. degree in Psychology or a related field is required for the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor.

Finalists will be asked during their screening interview to discuss how their teaching practices engage students of different ages, races, ethnicities, backgrounds, identities, and abilities, helping to remove barriers in order to ensure the success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

The successful applicant will be joining a diverse group of faculty who value teaching, research, social improvement via practice, and service. The ideal candidate brings:

  • A track record of distinguished teaching that engages undergraduate students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience teaching in hybrid, on-line, and in-person formats.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas)
  • Ability to teach core courses such as General Psychology, Methods, and other content areas.
