POSITION SUMMARY

This position increases the visibility of the University of Tennessee Libraries by determining the best way to communicate visual content. Creates content by synthesizing ideas and information to communicate content visually. Develops original, creative content for Libraries’ fine press publications, print and electronic publications, and websites, and electronic media. This content is for large promotional campaigns and projects as well as for one-off design needs. Designs lay-out and production details and communicates those to the rest of the team. Plans and produces graphic design and production details for all library publications and other graphic materials. This includes Hodges Library, DeVine Music Library, Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library, and the UT Press. Is responsible for developing original design ideas, layouts, and incorporating illustrations or photography into designs accounting for copyright and other considerations. Consults with individuals and groups to discuss ideas, make changes, negotiate budgets and set deadlines for production. Oversees and approves the end product. Prepares specifications for designs produced in a printed format and is responsible for aligning libraries image with UT branding guidelines.

Provides work direction to students and others involved in design projects. Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

· Knowledge of an ability to employ established methods, principles, concepts, and procedures related to visual communication and graphic design

· Possession of creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual ability and originality

· Must be flexible in meeting deadlines

· Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio

· Ability to interact, communicate and present ideas

· Knowledge of industry leading software and technologies (In Design, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc)

· Highly proficient in all aspects of design

· Ability to manage time, costs and deadlines

Preferred

· Experience working in higher education environment

· Advanced knowledge of graphic design software, such as Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator

· Ability to translate client needs into executable designs

· Ability to create original concepts and images through drawing or sketches

· Exemplary personal computer skills

· Basic knowledge of web accessibility standards

· Experience creating print-based materials

· Web design production process and project management skills
