The Position
These are part-time positions. This position works year-round as assigned including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. Position requirements and hourly rates are listed below.
Under direct supervision of the Pool Manager or his/her designee, supervises and instructs community aquatics activities at a community swimming pool; performs related duties as required. A Lifeguard: enforces established rules and regulations governing the safe use of pools; Observes the swimming pool and surrounding area for emergencies; Rescues swimmers as necessary; Administers artificial respiration and first aid as needed; Attends all staff meetings and training sessions; Performs assigned pool maintenance tasks including putting covers or lane lines on or off; Displays strong and professional public relations skills; Teach Beginning through Advanced swimming lessons, Infant/Pre-School classes, and Basic Water and Emergency Water Courses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PRE-PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS: All candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must complete the following pre-placement requirements to be appointed: * Must complete a live scan and medical within 7 days of receiving notice;
- Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. (INS form I-9 to be provided)
- A completed work permit, if candidate is under 18 years of age (form available from high school district);
- Submit all required certificates as indicated below
Candidates who are appointed to Aquatics positions will be required to attend an in-service training program. Candidates must be available to work from May 1st through August 31st with minimal to NO scheduling conflicts.

Applicants must be an American Red Cross (ARC) certified Lifeguard by date of hire.
*American Red Cross Certificates: WSI – Water Safety Instructor, SFA – Standard Red Cross First Aid, CPR – Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer, LT – Lifeguard Training.
SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates whose education and experience are determined to best meet the City’s needs, will be invited to an Assessment of Qualifications. Candidates must pass the swim assessment to move forward to the oral board interviews. An applicant must pass all components of the examination process to be considered for the position. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation to further testing.
