Responsibilities:
Performs routine and specialized procedures, reviews and approves clinical test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in accordance with established protocols for a laboratory performing high complexity procedures as defined by the standards of the Clinical laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.
Assist the department management staff in the functional oversight of the Microbiology department operations. As a a senior medical technologist the expectation is to be the senior representative of the working medical technologist group that will lead less experienced personnel in meeting the objectives of the department,
The Medical Technologist III will be responsible for administrative duties as outlined in the “Charge” assignment as specified in the Microbiology Laboratory Quality Assessment and Improvement Manual.
Performs specimen processing and microscopy procedures, to include the inoculation of solid and liquid media, and the preparation and examination of stained smears and wet preparations;
Performs tests for the detection and/or identification of infectious agents;
Performs tests for the determination of organism antimicrobial susceptibility;
Performs other routine and specialized procedures in accordance as specified in the primary function, in a manner which assures an efficient work flow and a test turnaround time within the established limits designated in the department’s scope of service;
Produces clear, concise and accurate electronic and/or written patient reports;
Provides clear, concise and accurate verbal patient reports with appropriate written or electronic documentation;
Reviews patient reports, logs, etc.; for accuracy, clarity and completeness, making corrective action as needed;
Performs the review of other staff member’s work product for accuracy, clarity and completeness, making corrective actions or directing the performance of corrective action as needed;
Operates and maintains equipment necessary for the function of and provision of services by the department; performs preventive and corrective instrument maintenance/repairs and maintain records
of action;
Recognizes and troubleshoots technical and administrative problems, and initiates corrective action;
Participates in the Department’s Quality Assurance and Improvement Program, to include the documentation and maintenance of patient, quality control, quality assurance and other related records, adherence to all applicable policies and procedures, and assistance in establishing quality control programs;
Actively participates and assists in external and internal education programs, and maintains current knowledge of hospital, departmental and related external agency technical, administrative, safety, and regulatory policies;
Interacts with physicians, laboratorians, health care professionals and other professionals regarding patient care issues;
Utilizes time, material and equipment resources in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner;
Works with infectious and hazardous substances;
Assists with the selection of test methodology appropriate for the clinical use of the test results;
Assist in the verification of test procedures performed and the establishment of the laboratory’s test performance characteristics;
Capable of writing and validating procedures;
Resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken;
Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly;
Assists in the training and competency evaluation of other testing personnel, to include the identification of training needs for each individual, and the documentation of the performance of individuals responsible for patient testing;
Incorporates the Trinity’s mission and goals and the Organization Integrity Program into daily work.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you will need:
Required:
Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology (Medical Technology), biological, chemical or related science; and satisfactory completion of a clinical laboratory educational rotation;
-or-
A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics –and- successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technologist program.
-or-
A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry, one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, -and- one year of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and/or Clinical Microscopy within the last ten years. Clinical rotations or professional experience must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology) or an appropriately board certified medical scientist and a certified medical technologist.

At least 10 years verifiable experience in the clinical laboratory Strong knowledge of laboratory methodologies, interpretation of results, quality assurance, and CMS regulations preferred; Ability to work in harmony with other personnel; Demonstrates basic computer literacy; Demonstrates comprehension, skill and command of oral and written English Language communication.
Current ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification as a Medical Technologist. Will consider previously certified Medical Technologists, who met the credentialing requirements by the Department of Health Education and Welfare (HEW certified MT) – required
