Essential Job DutiesNC State Controller’s Office is seeking a Payables Accountant to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial data while maintaining compliance with regulations. In this role, you will contribute to process improvement by proactively identifying and resolving payment and financial control issues.As the Payables Accountant you will provide guidance and support to the Vouchers and Travel Team, focusing on document processing, problem resolution, training and system improvements.Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and approve unique payment vouchers and travel reimbursements, applying advanced knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Coordinate and resolve complex issues involving vouchers, travel reimbursements, purchase order invoices, and vendor inquiries.
  • Conduct pay cycle reviews, including error checks, vendor data validation, and post-payment issue resolution.
  • Reconcile and manage primary out-of-country imprest accounts (Prague and CAMCORE).
  • Oversee university-issued travel advances and the Mobile Communication Device (MCD) Allowance process, including reviews and approvals.
  • Interpret, train, and communicate policies and system functionality to campus personnel, providing guidance and support.
  • Evaluate and test PeopleSoft enhancements and upgrades, developing and executing test plans to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Develop and deliver quarterly training sessions, analyzing effectiveness and revising content as needed.

QualificationsMinimum Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in Accounting; or Associate’s degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience in ERP payables systems, including processing and reporting
  • Understanding of general accounting principles, internal controls and best business practices.
  • Attention to detail in financial reviews and reconciliations

Preferred Qualifications

  • PeopleSoft experience specific to payables and travel
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc)
