GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position supports the visual communications program for Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources (SPCR) by initiating visual marketing strategies via desktop publishing including, conceptualization, design, composition, and editing of all marketing materials.

  • Facilitates desktop publishing, visual communications, and related marketing needs by conceptualizing, designing, composing, and editing all marketing materials. Stays up-to-date with the latest design trends, techniques, and software tools. Continuously enhances skills and knowledge to produce high-quality designs that align with current design standards and best practices.
  • Supports the visual communications program for SPCR by initiating new visual communication, marketing, and press strategies.
  • Creates visually appealing and engaging designs that align with the SPCR brand identity and messaging.
  • Designs marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, social media graphics, and website visuals to effectively communicate key messages.
  • Proposes new ideas for visual storytelling, creates compelling visual narratives, and explores new avenues for reaching the public.
  • Assists with website development, maintenance, and determining website content.
  • Creates appealing strategies to ensure dynamic, informative websites through coordination with the web designer, public information officer, and other department personnel.
  • Enhances the visual aspect of SPCR websites through the use of graphics, photos, and video.
  • Monitors departmental social media pages and platforms and provides updates, content, and user assistance through coordinated campaigns promoting department events, programs, and issues with a focus on creating and implementing SPCR-wide social media campaigns.
  • Serves as a project manager for the section, including organizing and prioritizing design requests managing multiple deadlines, and coordinating with external vendors or printing services.
  • Collaborates with fellow team members, SPCR staff, and external partners to develop cohesive informational and promotional strategies that foster a clear and consistent message, as well as strong team dynamics and engagement for SPCR programs.
  • Expands and maintains positive working relationships with media sources and vendors. Assists in providing them with accurate and compelling information, is responsive to their inquiries, and offers exclusive opportunities for collaboration.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants with four or more years of professional work experience in graphic design, editing, writing, publications production, public information, or press relations work, and experience in the management of social media platforms.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of desktop publishing, graphic design and visual communication principles, and application/programs.
  • Skills in professional design, writing and editing, as well as marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of print and broadcast methods, opportunities, constraints, and costs.
  • Skill in photography, news writing, website planning and design, publication design and methods, printing, and publishing.
  • Skill in interpersonal communications, oral and written communications, and problem-solving.
  • Skill in detecting and resolving potential SPCR public image issues.
  • Knowledge of journalism practices, ethics, and law including copyright, libel, privacy, Freedom of Information, and First Amendment issues.
  • Skill in the facilitation and coordination of SPCR marketing initiatives.
  • Knowledge of current issues and trends in outdoor recreation, the arts, and cultural tourism.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Multi Media Design)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Multi Media Design)

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Multi Media Design)
