Position HighlightsThe Carini Group in the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Arizona is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our group to lead a new project funded by the California Institute for Biodiversity (CIB).The Postdoctoral Researcher will lead a small team of undergraduates to isolate and identify soil microbes from across California to construct a “living atlas” of California’s belowground biodiversity. The soils will be provided by CIB and you’ll conduct culture work and use 16S rRNA sequencing (full-length via PacBio) to identify the cultured microbes. These microbes will be preserved by us and CIB as a “microbial seed bank.”The Postdoctoral Researcher will have creative control of the project so long as the deliverables (16S sequenced-matched cultures and corresponding database) are delivered to CIB.This would be a good project for an organized researcher with strong molecular biology and data analysis skills that has an interest in learning to culture soil microbes. The Postdoctoral Researcher may also have a background in microbial ecology, biogeography, evolutionary analyses, or genomics. If you are cultivation savvy, and motivated to independently learn the data analysis side, this may also be a good fit.We have numerous other projects you may be able to contribute to, and potentially lead, including:
