Job Description
WORKWEEK: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (35 hours/week). May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.
SALARY EXPECTATION: $52,000 – $57,000 / year
The JCFPL is seeking a bright, dynamic, outgoing, collaborative and enthusiastic individual to coordinate and produce public relations and media initiatives, as well as written materials for publication and distribution to the Jersey City community and Library staff.
The Public Relations and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for drafting and editing written copy to drive and support the Library’s communications efforts. The individual in this role will work closely with other members of the Communications & Marketing Department, and interface with other Library staff throughout the organization. The person in this role must have a passion for working as a member of a team to reach a shared vision.

Specific Job Duties:
- Develop and execute strategic PR campaigns to increase brand visibility.
- Create compelling written content for press releases, articles, and newsletter; distribute press releases and media pitches.
- Under the guidance of the Communications & Marketing Manager, work closely with the Leadership Team and other key library ambassadors to expand library awareness.
- Coordinate and conduct information programs, media interviews, press conferences, surveys, and other programs utilized to disseminate public information.
- Play a crucial role in building and maintaining the Library’s reputation and ensuring consistent communication with stakeholders.
- Track PR and communication efforts, analyze results, and report on key performance metrics.
- Monitor press and social media channels for brand mentions.
- With the oversight of the Communications & Marketing Manager, set clearly defined, measurable goals for progress in public relations and media that align with and support the Library’s organizational priorities and identified areas of impact.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments, including Administration, Development, Programming, and Special Collections.
- Research seasonal trends and direction while ensuring designs are consistent with best practices and JCFPL brand image.
- Identify and build new and/or improved processes to sustain achievements and support future progress towards identified goals, particularly in the context of public relations and media.
Core Competencies: The incumbent in this role possesses:
- Knowledge of modern public information, public relations, and advertising techniques and devices.
- Knowledge of one or more CRM/contact management systems (for example, OrangeBoy, Constant Contact, etc).
- Ability to proofread copy efficiently and according to house style guides.
- Expertise in storytelling across a wide range of Library-owned and third-party content delivery platforms, including websites and content management systems.
- Knowledge of the conventions and the form and style required for published written and visual materials.
- Understanding of and adherence to brand guidelines and style guides.
- Willingness and ability to improve and learn new skills in area of responsibility.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles, practices, and methods of outcome-oriented goal-setting.
- One year of experience in work involving the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information in the field of news media and/or public relations, publicity, and/or advertising.
- High School Diploma or GED; College Degree is a plus.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Basic experience or greater with Microsoft Office 365.
- Knowledge of Jersey City’s population, geography, and/or local government.
- Facility in a non-English language spoken in Jersey City (such as Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, Gujarati, Tagalog, etc.).
