JOB SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a Senior Manager Global Public Relations to join our global marketing team. This PR Manager will be responsible for proactive and reactive external communications for CooperVision’s $2B portfolio of 1 day, Frequent Replacement (FRP) and Myopia Management contact lenses. Responsibilities include driving strategy and planning, executing brand PR programs and initiatives, monitoring and analyzing industry and societal developments, and identifying and managing issues and crises in a dynamic environment.
This role will work closely with CooperVision’s global PR agency and in-house communications teams around the world and across the business to help drive a leading share of voice for the company and its core brands.
The candidate will also manage a global PR associate (initially a contractor).
Candidates should have an established understanding of media and influencer relations and the ability to craft messaging, compelling stories, and communications programs that help drive customer and partner momentum in support of brand strategies.
A background in B2B communications is preferred, with additional B2C experience also beneficial. The ideal candidate should have experience in the medical device space or related sectors. They should have the ability to understand contact lens technology and help translate it into compelling stories for both the trade and consumer audiences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Public Relations Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute PR programs that raise brand awareness and familiarity for 1 day, FRP and Myopia Management contact lens brands
- Collaborate and coordinate with Brand and Professional Affairs to develop and execute PR plans and programs to support commercial brand strategies.
- Use creative thinking to develop outstanding PR and aligned communications programs, with an emphasis on helping such tightly intersect with broader marketing plans.
- Take a leadership role in addressing sophisticated, changing, and unexpected communications challenges that can affect CooperVision’s Share of Voice (SOV) and global reputation.
- Draft or provide input for a range of external communications, including news releases, blogs, media alerts, pitches, FAQs, talking points, video production, and more.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including brand marketing, professional affairs, regional and country communications, and corporate to align on messaging and communications strategy.
- Lead the global external communications strategy and execution by working closely with global PR agency partners and in-house regional and country communications teams.
- Work closely with regions and countries to build great PR competencies, help up-level skills across marketing teams while making PR a standard component of the marketing mix.
- Provide regions and markets with the global content and toolkits for localization and local execution
- Measure, monitor, and build comprehensive outcomes reporting, and develop insights to maximize efficiency, year-to-year gains, and adjustments to strategy
- Interact with communications peers in CooperCompanies and CooperSurgical to help assess and play a role in broader cross-company opportunities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 7 years of professional communications experience. Experience in the medical device industry, either in-house or with an agency, is a plus.
- Experience working with global teams and adapting initiatives for cultural differences
- Brand communications and social media experience is a plus.
- Strong written, editorial, and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to lead multiple projects and tasks
- Demonstrated ability in developing on-brand messaging that best represents a brand’s voice and tone.
- A positive team-player attitude that is passionate about communications and can thrive in a very dynamic environment
- Eagerness to work in a fast-paced, global environment with around-the-clock needs as determined by the nature of business, news, and information flow.
- Natural self-starter who demonstrates creative and critical thinking abilities, can focus and execute, with an eye for details
- An effective collaborator who will work cross-functionally across teams and geographies. Strong interpersonal skills, experience building consensus, and driving collaboration by building positive relationships
- Ability to quickly analyze media coverage and sentiment, see around corners and apply insights to strategies
- Ability to understand contact lens technology and translate it into public relations strategies, messaging, and compelling stories
- Strong critical thinking, writing, communications, and problem-solving skills
- Crisis communication experience a plus. Ability to react and respond quickly to time-sensitive situations
- Strong organizational skills and a proven capability to manage everything from strategy to details and comfortable multitasking and prioritizing different requests

EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, media studies, marketing, advertising, business, and related fields or equivalent experience
EXPERIENCE
- 8+ years of experience
- In-house or agency roles
- Past work in a regulated or life sciences industry is a plus
- Agency management/collaboration experience
For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $122,373 and $174,818 and may include cost of living adjustments. The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.
