Job Description
The Sr. Product Manager for Pipeline (Upstream) Marketing is responsible for discovering and defining unmet needs and translate those into patient and customer centric innovations for the global downstream marketing organization to launch. There are two distinct areas of responsibilities for a pipeline marketer (1) “discovery” and (2) “execution”. Within the discovery phase, which happens before a project is funded as a new project within Edwards’ product development process (PDP), the marketer’s primary job is to define the “unmet needs” for the areas of growth opportunities prioritized by the strategy team and translate them into business cases to recommend best prospects for funding. Within the execution phase, which is when the best prospect gets funded within PDP, the marketer’s primary areas of responsibilities are to execute the so called- “product-readiness “ activities throughout the first 3 phases of the new product development process. Most of the day-to-day responsibilities for the Sr. Product Manager will be in the area of “execution”.
This position will report to the Senior Director of Pipeline Marketing in Structural Surgical Heart business unit and will work closely with a broad cross-functional internal team that includes R&D, Clinical and Regulatory Affairs, Health Economics and Reimbursement, Global Downstream Marketing, Brand Management as well as physician advisors.
Job Function:
- Routinely working with the new product development team, lead the definition of product, packaging and labeling requirements (1) by designing, executing and interpreting a well thought out market research plan involving tailor-made research tools and methods and (2) by leading a dedicated project specific physician advisory committee.
- Routinely develop and maintain market models for the respective new products under development
- Independently plan, lead and execute design validations for new products
- When needed, independently discover and define unmet needs and generate early concepts as part of a small cross-functional team.
- When needed, independently present business cases and recommend pipeline projects by assessing business, technical and clinical feasibilities of leading concepts; addressing key non-technical risks and questions; and by defining the project scope document.
Required Education & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field with 8 years’ work experience (or Master’s degree in related field with 6 years’ work experience) and strong business acumen are required
- Previous successful track record of working in either marketing or healthcare industry is required while experience in medical device market environment is preferred
- Prior experience with early-stage new product development (especially in the cardiovascular space) and new opportunity assessments are required
- Proven track record of using the new product development process, its phases and key deliverables – with specific attention to marketing deliverables – are required
- Proficient use and proven track record of successful use of various market research tools and methods for new product development
- Works independently without close supervision. Beyond making independent decisions, determines or effectively recommends course of action after considering potential risks and alternatives
- Ability to effectively influence and collaborate with multiple stakeholders and develop strong relationships with customers and internal multi-functional partners. Prior experience managing advisors is preferred.
- Possesses good problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills and attention to detail as well as ability to manage multiple tasks through effective prioritization are required
- Consistently pushes self and others to achieve challenging goals and objectives with a track record of executional successes based on integrity

- Domestic and international travel up to 30%

For California, the base pay range for this position is $111,000 to $158,000(highly experienced).
The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
