Senior Scientist Residue Analytical Chemistry
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Scientist Residue Analytical Chemistry, are to:
The registration of the company’s crop protection products in North America requires a comprehensive safety evaluation, including a safety and risk evaluation dossier submitted to regulatory authorities. This position exists to participate in the development and concise reporting of detailed scientific data in one or more of the following areas: plant/animal metabolism, environmental fate, or residue chemistry. The data thus reported will be used to obtain new product registrations, to extend existing products or to support existing business. This position may involve laboratory and field testing.
- Performs, or assists in performing laboratory-based studies and/or field testing to determine the behavior of Bayer Crop Science (BCS) products in crops, soils, water, or animal matrices in full compliance with GLP standards;
- Function as Principal Investigator or Study Director for GLP studies, and ensure all tasks associated with the study and field phase are compliant. Strong understanding of the appropriate chemistry guidelines to support international product registrations and prepare study protocols that meet these requirements;
- Solves day to day problems in study conduct thereby ensuring that studies progress to required deadlines. Solves analytical and equipment problems in the laboratory environment, and the in-life phases of field studies;
- Evaluates data and prepares reports for submission to regulatory authorities ensuring that the study meets the required business objective. Tailors reports to regulatory concerns, and communicates with members of the appropriate project/asset teams to ensure that work in progress remains aligned with the regulatory strategy;
- May independently plan and direct the work of junior team members performing study tasks, including mentoring in designing suitable studies, and taking overall responsibility for the completion of projects. May coordinate and review work of external contractors;
- Accurately assesses and forecasts time and resources needed to complete assigned studies and projects. Anticipate changes in project timing based on interpretation of current results and alert project management of significant departures;
- Maintains awareness of new developments in one or more areas of expertise. Makes recommendations as to their adoption into Environmental Safety (EnSa) programs as appropriate and lead the implementation of selected initiatives;
- Be a participant in the EnSa Team process for area of expertise. Contributes to the development of compound “issue documents,” driving the resolution of any issues;
- Represent BCS externally at industry meetings or at discussions with regulatory agencies;
- Follow company compliance programs, and fully observe all workplace safety regulations.

Required Qualifications:
- B.S. degree;
- Ability to conduct multiple, complex scientific projects, and can prioritize tasks in a frequently changing environment;
- Ability to develop into a technical expert in a field of interest;
- Working knowledge of global regulatory processes and guidelines for crop protection chemical, and strong experience working under EPA and/or OECD Good Laboratory Practices regulations;
- Demonstrated ability to guide junior members in the conduct of critical studies;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment leading to constructive interactions, and effective, accurate in tracking of time and study budgets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree and 4 years of relevant experience in Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Metabolomics, or related field; OR
- M.S. degree and 8 years of relevant experience in Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Metabolomics, or related field; OR
- B.S. degree and 10 years of relevant experience in Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Metabolomics, or related field.
