Job Description
THOR Solutions is actively seeking a Senior Technical Illustrator to support an upcoming program at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) in Middletown, RI. In this role, the candidate will develop, design, produce, and distribute various visual communications products in print, digital, web, and video formats. An ideal candidate will have prior technical graphic/video design experience in a U.S. Navy/DoD environment.
Specific responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
- Develop, design, produce, and distribute Visual Information Communications (VIC) products such as briefing presentations, posters, brochures, booklets, displays, training & instructional videos, promotional videos, website pages, video editing and post-production, and traditional technical illustrating.
- Support development of graphic design concepts and messages. Identify the best-suited products to communicate to targeted audiences, develop project plans, identify sources of content, develop conceptual designs, and illustrate the customer-requested project theme by completion of story board segments.
- Deliver the graphic design, layout and formatting of specified products.
- Complete research, locate, and deliver photos, icons, illustrations, or other graphic and visual items.
- Produce and deliver graphic items including icons, charts, graphs, 3-D illustrations, animation sequences, photo illustrations, and pictorial illustrations.
- Produce and deliver briefing presentations, posters, brochures, booklets, trade show type displays, museum type displays and other emergent visual media products.
- Produce and deliver interactive multimedia presentations, training and instructional videos, promotional videos, animated videos, and historical record videos. Production shall include capture of footage, editing, post-production integration of sound, animation, still photography, and text.
- Review, provide recommendations, and correct all artwork and text for accuracy, spelling, grammar, and format.
- Facilitate printing and production of physical products.
- Prepare and deliver text material for simple slides, reports, and briefs; create and deliver artwork.
- Coordinate demonstrations and develop internal demonstrations and presentation materials for the requiring codes.
- Evaluate and assess commercial visual information techniques, solutions, best practices, products, and procedures and provide recommendations to the Government for consideration for integration into VIC products.
Security Clearance Requirements:
- This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate will:
- Already possess an active or interim Secret (or above) clearance (preferred);
- OR, be able to qualify for a new Secret clearance upon hire.
Required Education, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (e.g., BA, BFA, AA) in graphic design or another relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
- In lieu of the above, a degree in a different discipline, a lesser degree, or a relevant certification may be considered in combination with additional relevant experience.
- At least five (5) years of recent, relevant professional experience including:
- Providing conceptual design, leadership, and direction for a wide variety of graphic programs and projects.
- Development of web designs and materials, internet sites, posters, and illustrations for subject matter experts in a wide range of technical disciplines.
- Experience obtained in a U.S. Navy/DoD environment is highly preferred.
- Strong proficiency with graphic software suites and common productivity software including Adobe Creative Cloud, MS Office, SharePoint and internet software tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Anticipated Travel:
- This position may include up to 20% travel, to locations in CT, FL, GA, NY, VA, WA, and the Bahamas.
Typical Physical Activity:
- Essential physical duties of this position include: typing, talking, and vision.
