Job Details

Ecovyst, Inc is on the hunt for a Site HR Manager to care for both our Ecoservices Dominguez, CA (Long Beach) and our Martinez, CA (San Francisco area) plants. The role will be based at our Dominguez, CA plant.

The Site HR Manager is responsible for generalist work for 1-3 locations for the Company. The successful candidate must possess strong Labor Relations skills and will support the processing of grievances, preparation of arbitration cases, and contract negotiation. Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to develop and leverage HR strategy within their sites(s), including rapid response to labor relations issues, onboarding of new hires, training and coaching new and existing managers and supervisors on performance reviews and career development discussions, managing interns and maintaining recruiting relationships with universities. Strong investigation skills, root cause analysis and the ability to influence operating management. The incumbent must understand how to implement solutions focused on resolving the root cause. Responsible for supporting and driving a positive employee relations strategy. Must be able to successfully support and execute corporate and business HR strategies such as the performance management system and succession planning initiatives. Will have HR responsibilities for up to 200 union and nonunion employees. Position will report to the Director of Human Resources or the Regional HR manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to support development of and execution of HR and business strategies.
  • Must be able to coach line management in the various HR strategies so there is alignment.

Must be able to influence decisions from operation management that is consistent with the HR strategy, appropriate risk recognition/mitigation and relevant labor law. * Must be able to develop and maintain effective relationships with the Unions and work with them on resolving grievances and support successful negotiation of contracts.

  • Must have solid understanding of employment laws and NLRA to perform the responsibilities of the position.

Must be able to perform detailed investigations into complex issues and influence operating management on recommended corrective action.

Must be skilled in root cause analysis and implementation of KPI based solutions that address the root cause. * Must be able to support development and implementation of positive employee relations strategies to maintain a union free environment in our non-union plants.

  • Must be able to support development of a Labor Relations strategy to maintain our positive relationships with the sites that have unions.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain university relationships, interview effectively and support selection of candidates that can grow and be retained by the company.
  • Must be able to travel approx. 30% of the time.
  • Must be able to work with operations management on professional development for professional employees in alignment with the Manager of Talent and to provide training and support to managers and supervisors regarding their responsibilities in the performance management and career development areas for their reports.
  • Must be able to work with the Director of Compensation on compensation-related issues within the area of responsibility.
  • Must be able to provide support as needed during the merit review process.
  • Must be able to support training development and periodically train sites as needed on HR and business-related topics.
  • Must be a proactive problem solver.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources/Labor Relations or related field.
  • 5-8 years of supporting union and nonunion manufacturing operations preferably in the oil or chemical industry.
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Detailed understanding of CA state employment law.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Strong investigation and root cause analysis skills.
