Job Description
A fast-growing technology provider and systems integrator specializing in environmental solutions is looking for a Strategic Purchaser responsible for implementing purchasing strategies, monitoring metrics to minimize project expenses, engaging in price negotiations, and overseeing vendor performance and dispute resolution. The ideal candidate is proficient in supply chain management and possesses strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical abilities. By communicating effectively, the new team member will positively impact the business by developing and executing strategic sourcing strategies that prioritize cost-effectiveness while adhering to purchasing standard operating procedures.

Location: Hoffman Estates, IL
Type of Position: Direct Hire
Responsibilities:
- Manage procurement activities for material and component suppliers and fabrication contractors:
- Identify, screen, and qualify new supply sources.
- Solicit project-related purchase order proposals.
- Review work packages for completion and assist in technical clarification of scope of work and bid documents between suppliers and engineering team.
- Evaluate quotes and develop negotiation strategies.
- Manage contract award and contract administration.
- Justify sourcing decisions, distribute and administer purchase orders; monitor and manage work in process, time schedules, and cost issues relative to delivery commitments and project budgets; evaluate and communicate performance measures of work activities.
- Support project teams and coordinate any site-related purchasing tasks and activities, including field services management and dispute resolution.
- Monitor project cash flows on a weekly basis and work with suppliers on payment terms to support a positive project cash flow; support sales, engineering, and project management in all sourcing requirements, updated pricing, deliveries, and new developments or products; receive, manage, and administer invoice approvals as needed based on purchase order value.
- Identify and assist Quality Assurance with implementation of necessary corrective actions; evaluate suppliers using analytical tools such as supplier ratings, supplier surveys and scorecards; communicate with purchasing management and project teams on procurement strategies and goals.
- Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies in response to changing market conditions; identify critical areas of the supply chain and device strategies to mitigate the impact of market conditions and supply chain issues on business.
Requirements:
- Associates or Bachelors degree or credits or technical training equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management; experience in manufacturing environment is beneficial
- Proficient with business and technical software systems and applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook
- Proficient skills in supply chain management and fundamentals
- Understanding of contract law and management of vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Strategic mindset
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Preferred skills include:
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, spreadsheets, flow diagrams, and engineering drawings
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Extensive experience in all aspects customer/market development
- Strong negotiation skills
- Capable of working independently and within a team
